Twinning visit May 2024

We were delighted to welcome 20 of our French friends to Foxton again over the weekend of 17 – 19 May. We were blessed with fabulous weather and a great time was had by all. Following welcome drinks and canapes at a reception on Friday evening our guests returned with their hosts for an evening meal, to relax, get to know each other better and catch up on all the news.

On Saturday morning, we had an introductory talk at the American Cemetery in Cambridge, and time to explore the visitor centre and site.

Although it was chilly, the speaker was very engaging, and Marie-Claude (the President of Montigny Twinning Association) did an incredible job as the French translator.

This was followed by a tour of Cambridge on the open-top bus, with different groups stopping off at various points along the route for lunch, visits to museums, punting and shopping, according to their interests.

In the evening we all met at the Village Hall for prosecco, a fabulous sit-down buffet, a bilingual quiz and Scottish country dancing, led by Tony and Carol Garrick. Everyone had a really good time!

Sunday was the usual relaxing day with pub lunches and visits to various places of interest in the area, including Chilford winery, the Orchard Tea Room at Grantchester, Audley End, bowling for the teenagers and even a boat trip on the Ouse at St Neots.

We rounded off the weekend with ‘tea and cake’ on Sunday afternoon to say au revoir, until the next time.

The return visit to Normandy will be over the weekend of 2-5 May 2025.
