Twinning visit May 2023

Visit to Montigny – 28 April to 1 May

After welcome drinks and delicious canapés in the Salle des Fêtes on Friday evening we spent the evening with our host families, catching up with old friends and getting to know new ones.

On Saturday, the sun shone and we enjoyed a wonderful visit to Monet’s house and garden at Giverny, despite the crowds. The garden was resplendent with multi-coloured tulips and spectacular wisteria.

After a 3-course lunch at a restaurant nearby, we separated off to wind our way back through the Normandy countryside to Montigny.

Some of us spent the afternoon at the beautiful village of La Bouille, on the banks of the Seine, where we had a wander, reading all the information boards (in French and English) before returning across the river on one of the little car ferries called Le Bac.

Saturday evening was spent at the newly refurbished hotel in Montigny, where we enjoyed another marvellous buffet meal. We also presented Christian, the mayor of Montigny, with a watercolour of Foxton Green, which they are planning to hang in the Mairie.

On Sunday, we spent the day relaxing with our host families, which included visits to Rouen and trips to some of the many abbeys in the area.

We rounded off the weekend with a ‘farewell drink’ at a café in Rouen.

We are all looking forward to a return visit in Foxton next year, which is now booked for 17 – 20 May 2024. Do let us know if you would like to get involved by hosting a French couple or family by emailing us at foxton.twinning@gmail.com.
